Mufflers

Devil, spotted on a Dutch TA during ITTī98. Currently donīt know anything about it.

Domus/Rina: A Belgium made stainless steel pipe with a great sound, but a little bit too loud to be legal in Germany. These pipes formerly have been sold as "Domus", now the brand is "Rina". Spotted on several Dutch bikes during ITTī98.

Laser Produro: stainless steel, easy mounting, great looking, with a terrific deep sound when open.
DEM 757,- German ABE; also sport version available (without ABE).

For mounting the Laser, you'll need three parts:

  1. the muffler itself
  2. an adapter to mount the muffler to the 2-in-1 manifold (the one shown in the big picture is not what you will receive when ordering a Laser for TA!)
  3. some stuff to fix the muffler to the stock mounting points
Normally these parts are combined to a kit assembled specially for your bike.

Hear Tom Cevro's Laser equipped TA (mpeg3, 290Kb). However, I guess, this is the sport version ... ;-)
You'll need a mpeg3 player like Winamp for Windows to hear it. .

Leovinci
Leovinci
of Italy manufactures the EC-approved X3 muffler for Transalp.

The product description, stolen from Leovinci site:
The homologated X3 range achieves the correct balance between performance and noise emissions. This is a CEE - approved product, which betters the performance of OE silencers. The internal structure is fabricated from stainless steel based on the 'twin chamber' concept, surrounded by sound-absorbent material. The outer skin, with its typically italian design, is made from aluminium, and the overall weight of the exhaust is considerably lighter than the OE system.

Price: DEM 669.- (EUR 342.-)

marving
Marving:
seen here on Dirk's bike (all covered with the dirt of Sweden :) ). Sound is similar to the Sebring. German ABE.

Performance: Dirk says, there's no noticeable enhancement, but on the Anderstorp Grand Prix circuit back straight he's been faster than me ... Ok, his bike has some less 100,000 km on the odo ;-)

Here's a newer pic.

Price: appr. DEM 419.-, what is really not too much money, but the manufacturing quality is rather poor. Dirk uses it for roughly a year (correct, Dirk?), and I saw lots of rust on the muffler.

MIGMIG:

French exhaust pipes manufacturer MIG offers polished alloy mufflers for PD06, PD10, and Y2K TA. Former offered carbon muffler is not longer manufactured.

Note: As I recently read, MIG seems to be out of business. Apparently there's nothing left of the company. Even the website www.mig.fr doesn't exist anymore, at least not in the usual form. Maybe you're able to find the one or the other can in a dealer's stock.

Per Oehl's self constructed, spotted during ITT'98 ("noise magnifier" ;-) ). In fact, one of the coolest and best sounding pipes, I've ever seen and heard on a TA! Made from polished alloy. TÜV or ABE? He-he, definitely not! This is a unique specimen, however, Per is willing to go into production, if there will be enough orders (min. 10). It's for DEM 400.- (roughly) + shipment fee.

An Italy made muffler, spotted during ITTī98 on Bogdanīs bike. Don't know the brand anymore, somewhat "Silenziatori" or so. Anyone knows? Bogdan said, that he received a sheet of paper reading ABE. However, in Poland this is of minor interest ;-). This muffler is for roughly DEM 200.- . Disadvantage: No mounting points. The lower mounting point (at pillionīs footrest) you have to weld on by yourself.

Staintune on Greg's bike
.

Read what Greg wrote:

My Staintune muffler is great, totally stainless steel construcion and with a five year warranty. It has a removable baffle; with the baffle in place it is a little louder than stock and with the baffle removed it is quite loud. My muffler is a custom made low level, they normally sell a high level muffler for the Transalp that has the same features as mine, the cost is about AUS$480. The performance is a little bit better than stock with the baffle in and with the baffle out there is a noticeable increase in the midrange and a bit up top. I am going to the factory next week and will ask if they have a European distributor and pass it on to you. Staintune make mofflers and full systems for most bikes, especially Ducati and BMW( they make a low level muffler for the R1100GS that lets you fit a normal size pannier), they are sold in the USA and I will find out that distributor for you as well.

German ABE? I guess, no. ;-)
